    Stability of photoactive composite kaolinite/ZnO

  • Original language description

    ZnO is amphoteric oxide insoluble in water that is widely applied in our daily life. It is a very efficient photoactive material too, particularly if ZnO is prepared in nanoparticles form. However ZnO nanoparticles can be dangerous for people because canpenetrate through the human skin. Therefore the nanoparticles have to be inserted on the suitable carrier, in this case the clay mineral kaolinite. Photoactive composites with different content of ZnO (10, 30 and 50 wt. %) in kaolinite were prepared. After the preparation of composite, the materials were dried at 105 degrees Celsius. Prepared samples were investigated using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The stability of clay mineral kaolinite doped by ZnO was studied by leaching. Materials were leached in deionized water in suspension (solid:liquid = 1:10) for 24 hours.
