Antibacterial activity of organovermiculites with variously modified surface area
Original language description
This study describes influence of mechanical and chemical treatment of Mg-vermiculite (from Brazil) on resulting antibacterial activity of organovermiculites. Two samples with different particle size were obtained using ball (sample V) and jet (sample Vj) milling. Furthermore these samples were treated with HCl for 5 hours at 80°C to obtain samples VA and VjA. Organovermiculites were four vermiculite samples intercalated with chlorhexidine diacetate (CA). The antibacterial activity of prepared organoclays against bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus, Entrerococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were evaluated by finding minimum inhibitory concentration that completely inhibits bacterial growth. The best antibacterial activityagainst all mentioned bacterial strains except Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed jet milled vermiculite with CA. The jet milled and acid treated vermiculite with CA had the best antibacterial activity against very resistant bacteria Pseudomon
