New aspects on vermiculite filler in polyethylene
Original language description
The vermiculite (Ver) from Brazil was ball- and jet-milled and then vermiculite fillers were melt compounded in amount of the 7 and 3.5 mass% in polyethylene (PE) without additives. The vermiculite nanofillers and corresponding clay polymer nanocomposites (CPN) were characterized using the X-ray powder diffraction, particle size distribution and specific surface area measurements. The surface irregularities of the CPN plates were studied using atomic force microscopy. The arrangement of the PE chains near the vermiculite structure was investigated by molecular modeling. Finding that the CPN surface of plates have an effect on bacterial growth was confirmed by long-term evaluation of the living/deceased Enterococcus faecalis bacteria on the surface plates of the CPN.
