Magnetically Modified Tea for Lead Sorption

  • Original language description

Lead is one of the elements dangerous for the environment. It occurs in soil and also in water. Therefore, the content of Pb ions should be controlled and their concentration in wastewater must be reduced. Article deals with sorption properties of the magnetically modified biological material which was developed from a used tea leaves. Magnetically modified tea was suspended in methanol and then was added ferrofluid (magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles). Prepared material was characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction methods and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Studies were focused on the sorption and desorption properties. The changes of Fe content in magnetically modified material after treatment were observed as well. Adsorption proces has been modelled by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Results show that the maximal sorption capacity of Pb ions on the material is 44.5 mg/g and desorption amount did not exceed 7.4% of the adsorbed amount of Pb ions. It
