Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles Prepared Using TiOSO4 Precursor

  • Original language description

Two procedures has been tested for preparation of nanosized TiO2 using the reaction of titanyl sulphate with sodium hydroxide. The first procedure comprises direct reaction of both substances at the temperature 80 °C, the second procedure is based on thegrowing of TiO(OH)2 on the nucleation centers originated during initial step of titanyl sulphate and sodium hydroxide reaction. Generally both reactions led to formation of white slurry containing hydrated titanium dioxide which was isolated by the means of filtration, washed several times with distilled water, then dried at 105 C and calcined at the selected temperatures. During heat treatment hydrated titanium dioxide turns into titanium dioxide. The samples were characterized by the means of X-ray powder diffraction analysis, the morphology of the TiO2 particles were studied using scanning electron microscopy, the photodegradation activity of the prepared samples was evaluated by using the photodegradation of acid orange 7.
