Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes as Sorbents for Removal of Ibuprofen and Diclofenac from Aqueous Solutions

  • Original language description

The aim of this work is to verify the possibility of sorbents utilization based on nanocarbon to remove drug residues from wastewater, specifically sorbents based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Commercially available carbon nanotubes Nanocyl 7000 (NC7000) original raw forms and modified oxidation with sodium hypochlorite (Ox. NC7000) have been used. Interaction of both materials with ibuprofen and diclofenac was observed and studied in model aqueous solutions. The samples were analyzed using XRD, SEM and carbon phase analysis. Model solutions were analyzed by UV/VIS spectrometry. Optimized sorption models using Langmuir, Freundlich and Langmuir-Freundlich isotherms were prepared. Obtained results obtained showed that carbon nanotubes are suitable adsorbents for drug removal with high efficiency, the modified ones were better than pristine.
