Transmission Electron Microscopy Observation of Bionanogold Used for Preliminary N2O Decomposition Testing

  • Original language description

Since gold nanoparticles were found out to be active in catalysis, a lot of attention has been paid to preparation of gold-based catalysts. This article is focused on the biologically prepared gold nanoparticles embedded on biosilica and on the microscopy characterization of nanogold transformations after calcination and catalytic decomposition of N2O. Stability of nanoparticles and of the supporting material belongs to the important factors playing the crucial role in the catalyst activity. Even though the tested nanocomposite was not effective in the reaction studied, sufficient biosilica stability and slighter enlargement of the gold nanoparticles was observed and further steps for nanocomposite optimization were suggested. Moreover, the synthesis of the gold nanoparticles by diatoms seems to be an effective and economic way for the catalytic composites preparation in mild laboratory conditions.
