Cordierite ceramics: Clay minerals precursors and nanocomposite applications
Original language description
The common clays are the most widespread ceramic materials in the world. In this chapter, a general review of the various clay minerals in field of cordierite ceramics is presented. First part of the chapter focuses on description and definition of clay minerals mixtures as precursor materials for preparation of cordierite ceramics. The clay minerals are described in sense of structure, chemistry and applicability for cordierite ceramics. Effect of various clay mixtures is considered for preparation of cordierite ceramics with specific properties. This part is followed with description of cordierites modified with one or more elements representing hybrid type of cordierite ceramics.. Next part describes variability of composites where cordierite ceramics is as matrix for active substance or glass/ceramic combination.
