Three methods for antibacterial ZnO nanoparticles preparation

  • Original language description

Antibacterial zinc oxide nanoparticles were prepared via ultrasound, hydrothermal and mechanochemical process. Zinc acetate and zinc chloride with sodium hydroxide as precursors were used. By applying the calcination process at 350 oC and 650 oC for 1.5 hour, nanoparticles with different morphology, crystallite size and zeta potential were prepared. Nanoparticles morphology and shape were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Structural and phase analysis was performed using X-ray diffraction method (XRD). The nanoparticles size was characterized by the d10 and d90 diameters and volume-weighted mean diameter (d43). The surface changes were evaluated using zeta-potential measurements and pH value. Antibacterial activity was tested on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacterial strains. The nanoparticle samples under antibacterial testing showed different minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values after 1 day.
