Use of a low-temperature plasma reactor to reduce volatile organic compounds
Original language description
The aim of the experiments carried out on an NTP laboratory reactor with a replaceable cathode was to compare the efficiency of acetone and toluene reduction using cathodes made of structural carbon steel, aluminum, and aluminum with a MAO surface treatment. The experiments were conducted at a constant plasma source voltage and air flow rate with a known concentration of acetone or toluene. During the process, the reduction efficiency of the selected VOCs and process parameters, including the energy intensity of the process, were monitored. Initial results of the experiments showed that the use of an aluminum cathode with a modified surface has a comparable decomposition efficiency of selected substances (approx. 70%) to the other cathode materials used and is similar to that reported in published works. The efficiency of the process can be increased by optimizing selectable parameters, primarily the plasma source voltage and gas flow rate.
