Separation of steam-gas mixture by condensation
Original language description
The complete oxy-fuel combustion of a hydrocarbon is a reaction in which oxygen and a hydrocarbon combine to produce carbon dioxide, water vapor and heat energy. The novel concept of power generation system denoted as zero emision steam cycle involves technologies for CO2 capturing in order to prevent it from entering the atmosphere and contributing to global warming. This can be done by a post-combustion capture which is method of CO2 separation from waste gas by simply cooling and condensing water beyond a convential power plant. The condensation process takes place in steam-gas mixture (SGM) separator where latent heat released is used for steam production. An experimental apparatus has been built in Energy Research Center to investigate local condensation heat transfer coefficients with the presence of the noncondensable gas in a vertical ttube. Conclusions of a study will be used for development and design of a pilot SGM separator.
