BIOMASS GASIFICATION PROCESSES AND PROBLEMS RELATED TO TAR BY-PRODUCTS
Original language description
The increasing energy needs of humanity may lead to a depletion of fossil fuels such as gas, coal or petroleum. An alternative method of obtaining energy can be biomass gasification processes, because biomass is the most popular renewable energy source. However, during the gasification of biomass a large amount of tars, which are mixtures of heavy organic compounds, are generated. They may cause clogging of the gasification installation and increase its failure rates. That is why there is considerable research related to optimization of the gasification process to reduce the amount of generated tars. Several methods are suggested, one of them can be an appropriate choice of process factors such as the process temperature or gasification medium, it is also possible to use some minerals and metals inside the furnace as catalysts.
