Direct Decomposition of NO Over Co-Mn-Al Mixed Oxides: Effect of Ce and/or K Promotors

  • Original language description

Alkali promoted Co-Mn-Al mixed oxides are active in direct decomposition of NO to N2 and O2. In this contribution, the effect of K and/or Ce on activity of Co-Mn-Al mixed oxides was studied, as presence of Ce could increase mobility of oxygen in the transition metals oxides. Potassium-modified catalysts were prepared by impregnation of the coprecipitated Co-Mn-Al or Co-Mn-Al-Ce wet cake precursors by KNO3. To increase the concentration of Co and K, the catalysts with Ce were impregnated by Co or (Co+K) nitrates and calcined at chosen temperature (500 or 700 oC). The catalysts were characterized by AAS, nitrogen physisorption (SBET), H2-TPR, XRD, and CO2-TPD. The catalysts pre-calcined at 700 oC were tested for direct NO decomposition in inert gas (650 oC, 0.5 g, 1000 ppm NO/N2, 49 ml min-1). Co-Mn-Al mixed oxides with 2 - 8 wt.% K (depending on the catalysts preparation), not containing Ce, are active in direct decomposition of NO. Despite assumption, cerium does not contribute to higher activity of the catalysts in the examined reaction.
