TiO2-CeO2-CuO catalyst in oxidation of methanol and dichloromethane; On the effect of preparation method on its catalytic performance

  • Original language description

This contribution was presented as a poster at the15th Pannonian International Symposium on Catalysis in the term 4-8 September 2022 in Jastrzębia Góra in Poland. The method of preparation of the catalyst has an effect on its physicochemical properties. As a result of different preparation methods of the catalyst, there are changes in its structure which can be reflected in its ability to reduce, acidity, the size of the specific surface area, etc., and ultimately in its catalytic efficiency (activity, selectivity, durability) in the studied reaction. The work deals with the preparation of the TiO2-CeO2-CuO catalyst (in the composition of 86 : 11 : 3 wt.%, in powder form [1, 2]) by three different chemical methods (co-precipitation, precipitation followed by impregnation of CuO, sol-gel) combined with calcination, and the study of catalytic efficiency (activity and selectivity) of prepared catalysts in the oxidation of methanol and dichloromethane. Catalytic experiments were carried out on a laboratory apparatus consisting of a flow-through tube reactor with a fixed catalyst bed located in the furnace, injection of dichloromethane (500 ppm) with water (1.5 vol.%) or methanol (500 ppm) and an on-line FTIR analyzer. The efficiency of catalysts in oxidation of methanol was studied in the temperature range of 45MINUS SIGN 500oC, in oxidation of dichloromethane in the range of 100MINUS SIGN 500oC, under the SV of 70 m3.kgcat-1.h-1.It was found that in oxidation of methanol TiO2-CeO2-CuO prepared by precipitation followed by impregnation of CuO was the most efficient catalyst. In oxidation of dichloromethane TiO2-CeO2-CuO prepared by sol-gel method showed the best catalytic efficiency.
