Conversion of Aliphatic Hydrocarbons to Aromatics Using HZSM-5 Zeolite Catalysts

  • Original language description

Due to ever stricter environmental regulations, alternative routes (other than those involving coal and crude oil) for BTEX production are attracting the attention of researchers. At the same time, addressing the problem of waste plastics, particularly polyolefins, presents a promising solution: the aromatization of hydrocarbons derived from the pyrolysis of waste polyolefins. During the pyrolysis of waste polyolefins, a wide spectrum of gaseous (C1-C4) and liquid hydrocarbons (C5-C20) is produced. These compounds subsequently undergo aromatization over suitable catalysts. In this regard, improving aromatic yield and selectivity during the catalytic treatment of waste polyolefins requires an enhanced understanding of cracking and subsequent aromatization processes. Therefore, the aim of the present work is to study the cracking and aromatization of the most commonhydrocarbons produced as intermediates during the thermo-catalytic treatment of waste polyolefins.
