Novel hydrotalcite-ZSM-5 composites as catalyst for NH3-SCO
Original language description
The poster was presented at 56. Symposium on Catalysis which took place on 10-11 November 2025 in Prague.Air pollution is one of the major global environmental issues, strongly affectingecosystems and human health. Ammonia (NH3), emitted from combustion processes, fertilizer production, agriculture industry processes significantly contribute toeutrophication, acidification and air pollution1. Selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia(NH3-SCO) is low-temperature catalytic process (≤550 °C) considered as verypromising method for the removal of ammonia from waste gases.Although various catalysts have been studied for this process, there is still need toprepare innovative catalysts with high selectivity towards dinitrogen (N2). Previousstudy by Kupková demonstrated that MgAl hydrotalcites prepared by co-precipitationmethod and subsequently impregnated by Cu showed higher catalytic efficiency and N2selectivity compared to hydrotalcites prepared by simultaneous co-precipitation of allcations. However, the dispersion of CuO species remaind a challenge. To overcomethis problem, novel hydrotalcite-ZSM-5 composites were developed.Due to this novel hydrotalcite-zeolite composites were synthesized, where zeolite ZSM5 with different Si/Al ratios served as the support, while CuMgAl hydrotalcite acted asthe precursor of the active phase. Materials were synthesized via the co-precipitationmethod and subsequently calcined to form catalysts of the desired structure. The in-situthermal decomposition of hydrotalcites on the zeolite surface results in formation ofwell-dispersed copper oxides (CuO) and mixed metal oxides (MMOs) deposited on thehigh surface area of zeolite support.Prepared catalysts showed very promising results in NH3-SCO reaction exceedingammonia conversion 80 % already at 300 °C, WHSV: 1000 ml.min-1∙g-1 and withselectivity toward nitrogen above 90 % throughout the entire temperature range 225-375°C.
