Methods of risk determination of high temperature corrosion for heating surfaces in biomass fired or co-fired boilers
Original language description
The article describes the processes of sulphur and chlorine corrosion in boilers, and presents diagnostic and research methods for the prevention of the dangerous phenomenon of high temperature corrosion, the rate of which can increase by even one orderof magnitude after the replacement of fossil fuels (such as coal) with agricultural biomass. The diagnostic methods described in this article help determining in advance the risk of corrosion and avoid unexpected and usually very expensive failures. Thisproblem is crucial for both local boiler houses and the power industry, where biomass cofiring dramatically shortens the life of evaporator walls water tubes, reducing it even to 2-3 years. Corrosion is a major cause of failures associated with leaks inscreens, and replacement of damaged screens may be required even after only a dozen or so months of operation. Unexpected failures related to high temperature corrosion may lead to the shut-down of the boiler and costs reaching even mill
