    The covered conductors faults detections

  • Original language description

The medium voltage covered conductors are primary specified for the forested and broken terrain by reason of theirs high reliability. The major advantages of the covered conductors include high operational reliability as there is no short-circuit at themoment of the phase-tophase contact, the individual phases may be located closer to one other and the demand on the built-up area of the supply lines is lower than that for the conductors with ACSR lines, there is no immediate phase-to-phase contact whenthe tree branch falls on the conductor, lines are not dangerous for birds sitting on the conductors. However, the main problem of theirs use is problematic fault detection for case of covered conductor downfall to the ground or for case of tree branch downfall on the covered conductor. The paper presents possibility of covered conductor faults detection with using a novel method whereas this method works on principle of partial discharges activity evaluation.
