Frequency of Gram-positive bacterial pathogens in bloodstream infections and their resistance to antibiotics in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The strains Staphylococcus aureus (39 %), coagulase-negative staphylococci (34 %), Streptococcus pneumoniae (11 %) and Enterococcus spp. (9 %) were identified as the etiologic agent of gram-positive bloodstream infections in the Czech Republic. The frequency of oxacillin-resistant strains was in Staphylococcus aureus and in coagulase-negative staphylococci 10 an 41%, respectively. All Streptococcus pneumoniae strains were susceptible to penicilin and chloramphenicol. No strains resistant to glycopeptides were found in enterococci. The study was supported by a grant "Independent Medical Grant - Gram-positive pathogens in bloodstream infections", Pfizer, New York. Part of the results was obtained under the support of IGA grant of the Ministry of Health, Czech Republic, No. NI/7305-3.
