  • Original language description

Paravertebral blockade (PVB) is an underused technique that will provide excellent postoperative analgesia for any unilateral surgical procedure of the trunk. A number of different approaches have been described, e.g. direct surgical placement, loss-of-resistance, and nerve stimulator guided approaches. When compared to other techniques for postoperative analgesia in children, PVB has been found superior to these alternatives. The complication and side effects profile also appears acceptable compared toother frequently used techniques.
