We evaluated periostin in peripheral blood as a potential biomarker for bladder and prostata gland cancer. Methods. Blood samples were used from 50 patients with urothelial tumors of the urinary bladder (BC), from 50 patients with prostata cancer (PC) and from 50 individuals with benign urological diseases. Blood was collected before cystoskopy and biopsy of prostata gland. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA, Biovendor) were performed for periostin from serum. Simultaneously we measured serum and urine PSA (Immulite, Siemens), PSA free (Immulite, Siemens) and clusterin (ELISA, BioVendor). Results. Serum periostin were higher in individuals with PC (medians 59.7 vs. 47.6 ng/ml, P=0.73) but the difference was statistically insignificant.
