COGNITIVE DYSFUNCTION, DISSOCIATION AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN BIPOLAR AFFECTIVE DISORDERS IN REMISSION

  • Original language description

The clinical presentation of bipolar affective disorders often has an episodic course, with individuals switching from distinct affective episodes of depression, mania or hypomania, and euthymia. Although mood disturbances are the sine qua non of bipolardisorder, contemporary research has pointed increasingly to nonaffective elements of psychopathology associated with this diagnosis. Problems with work and social functioning persist for lengthy periods in many patients with bipolar disorder after the resolution of manic or depressive episodes, even in the absence of subsyndromal affective symptoms (Basso et al. 2002, Thompson et al. 2005).
