Parathyroid carcinoma, a rare cause of hypercalcemia in a patient with B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma

  • Original language description

This is a case report of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma coexisting with parathyroid carcinoma as an unexpected cause of hypercalcemia. Hypercalcmia is a common accompanying paraneoplastic phenomenon. Primary hyperparathyroidism less frequently leads to increased levels of plasma calcium in malignant diseases. Simultaneous or double malignancies, represented by parathyroid carcinoma in this case, are extremely rare. Parathyroid carcinoma may be suspected based on severe clinical signs, significant laboratory findings, and the tumor size.
