Acute exposure to solar simulated ultraviolet radiation affects oxidative stress-related biomarkers in skin, liver and blood of hairless mice
Original language description
UV light is known to be implicated in several skin diseases. Through low molecular weight mediators, "non-skin" tissues can also be affected. Female SKH-1 mice were exposed to a single dose of UVB (200, 800 mJ/cm(2)) or UVA (10, 20 J/cm(2)). Effects on haematological parameters, activity and/or expression of antioxidant enzymes, level of GSH, oxidative damage markers were analysed in blood, liver and skin. The blood count showed a significant increase in leukocyte number and reduction of platelets 4 h after UVA and UVB irradiation, which disappeared within 24 h except for the higher UVA dose. Changes in activity of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) and level of GSH and lipid peroxidation products were found in skin, erythrocytes and liver.Expression of CAT, SOD, glutathione transferase, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (phosphate) quinone oxidoreductase and hem oxygenase-1 in skin was affected after UVA and UVB radiation. Increase in carbonylated proteins was found in pla
