Fatal Injuries of Passenger Cars Driv ers Retrospective Study
Original language description
Introduction: Road traffic accidents represent a major all-society issue. The data from the Czech Police show that the most frequent victims are car drivers. Monitoring the frequency, severity and the nature of their injuries provides a significant source of information for further prevention of such accidents. Material and methods: Aretrospective study of a group of 121 drivers, deceased between 2006 and 2010 in the regions of Olomouc and Zlín; processing of the acquired data through statistical methods. Results: The article presents the most significant acquired results dealing with the frequency and severity of injuries in individual body segments and organs, the cause of death, survival time, alcohol influence, the type of collision and its relation to intoxication. Conclusion: A comparison with the results of a study conducted in 1978 showed our results to be practically identical. This finding raises a number of questions yet to be answered.
