Original language description
This chapter presents a set of typical medical history data in the context of gastrointestinal diseases. It also introduces and discusses the typical symptoms of diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon and the findings of the physical examination detected by inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation which are related to them. Emphasis is laid on the importance of examination of the rectum. Laboratory, imaging and endoscopic examination methods used for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases are presented at the end of the chapter.
