Health literacy is important for maternal recognition of situations endangering the child's life. The diagnosis of SIDS has a multifactorial origin and the social factors should be included in risk factors. Research hypothesis was based on the assumption that you can find a link between child death, in which the autopsy record are references to the diagnosis of SIDS, and health literacy of his mother. Methods: The method studied autopsy protocols (18) of the children who died within 1 year and which were dissected on the Department of forensic medicine and medical law in the Faculty Hospital and Medical Faculty in Olomouc in the years 2011 - 2015. The categories of content analysis were structured according List of Inspection deceased, accompanied by the conclusions of expert opinions. Results: In 6 cases (4 boys, 2 girls) in the age range 1-11 months was mentioned connection with the death of SIDS, in four cases a death was in the cold season. A condition that directly led to the death and situation which led to the cause, according to the autopsy doctor performing a 3x labelled as choking and 3x as death from unknown causes. Conclusion: In five cases did not confirm or refute the possibility of infant deaths for the diagnosis of SIDS. In all cases they were found some risk factors for infant death, to the side of the mother: low socioeconomic level, smoking, incomplete family and underestimation of health hazards. Inadequate health literacy is confirmed by all mothers.
