Non-Primary Dystonia
Original language description
Marsden and Fahn introduced four classification categories for dystonia based on their aetiology: primary dystonia, secondary dystonia, dystonia-plus syndromes and heredodegenerative dystonia. In recent years, these original categories intermixed with the increasing evidence of the genetic, metabolic and enviromental aetiologies of many diseases manifesting with dystonia. Today, there is a trend toeards a clinico-pathological definition of only two groups: primary dystonia and non-primary (secondary) dystonia. Non-primary dystonia consists of'dystonia-plus syndromes' and symptomatic dystonia'.
