    First biography of Josef Šusta, who was, together with Josef Pekař, the most important Czech historian in the first half of the 20th century. The monograph describes Šusta's human and scientific steps form the birth in South Bohemia through his studies in Prague, Vienna, Rome. His forty years long career at Charles University and his contribution to public life at home as well as in abroad. His most significant publications are discussed and activities during the WWII.
