Original language description
Following Halliday?s (1978) conception of language as social semiotic, the authors focus on the dynamic aspect of the interplay of two dimensions, i.e. power and solidarity, as reflected in the forms of address in English. The data-based analysis supports the need of a dynamic approach in which alternative rules and co-occurrence rules have to be taken into consideration in order to achieve relevant results.
