Europeization of Czech Politics: the Political Parties and the EU Referendum

Original language description

The aim of this article is to analyse the attitudes of the main political parties in the Czech Republic towards the European Union. A special emphasis is put on the presentation of these attitudes in the pre-referendum period and on the levels of supportfor membership achieved among the parties? supporters. This topic is analysed through the theoretical lens of ?Europeanization,? an approach which examines the impact on domestic (national) policies and political systems of EU policies and processes. This theoretical perspective is usually applied to current member states, but has been increasingly extended to candidate countries in the pre-accession period as well. In the period after the first democratic elections of 1990 the ?European? debate amongCzech political parties has intensifyed and shifted from the clear initial ?yes? to membership to more complex and qualitative questions. Cílem této stati je analýza postojů hlavních politických stran v ČR k Evropské unii, konkrétně jejich prezentace v období před referendem a míra podpory členství v Unii mezi voliči těchto subjektů. Téma koresponduje s diskuzí o europeizaci, která probíháv zemích EU, ale rovněž i v kandidátských zemích. Mezi českými parlamentními stranami došlo od prvních demokratických voleb v roce 1990 k prohloubení ?evropské diskuse?, od prvotního zřetelného ?ano? EU strany přešly ke složitému komplexu kvalitativníchotázek a návrhů. V období před referendem v roce 2003 vliv ?europeizace?, tedy začleňování evropské problematiky do agendy politických stran, již byl zcela zřetelný. Autoři využili ve své práci metod politické geografie, sociologie a poznatků politickévědy a prokázali vysokou korelaci mezi výsledkem referenda a voličskou podporou proevropsky orientovaných stran. Voliči ČSSD, ODS, KDU-ČSL a US-DEU podpořili dle výstupů dostupných průzkumů členství v EU většinou kladných hlasů, jež byla
