10th biennial international conference of the Southern Studies Forum, a working group within the European Association for American Studies (EAAS), for the first time organized in a former socialist country. Among the topics discussed were: the South through the eyes of insiders/outsiders; the South loved and hated ? historical, economical and personal reasons; myths and legends of the historical and contemporary South and various reactions on them; popular culture in the South, and the South as motif ortopic in popular culture; visual and literary clichés connected with the South; the shadows of slavery and segregation in the contemporary South.

10. mezinárodní konference Fóra pro studium amerického Jihu, pracovní skupiny v rámci Evropské asociace amerikanistů (konference se konají každé dva roky); poprvé se konala v některé z bývalých socialistických zemí. Hlavní témata referátů a diskusí byla:pohled na americký Jih zevnitř i zvnějšku; Jih milovaný i nenáviděný ? historické, ekonomické a osobní důvody; mýty a legendy o Jihu minulosti i současnosti a různé reakce na ně; populární kultura na Jihu a Jih jako motiv či téma v populární kultuře; obrazová a literární klišé spojená s americkým Jihem; stíny otroctví a segregace na Jihu dnešních dnů.
