The Concept of Method according to Johannes Jessenius

The problem of the method is the topic of the oration of Johannes Jessenius Et philosophiae et medicinae solidae studiosis (Wittebergae 1601). Although Jessenius regards himself as the pupil of Paduan Aristotelianism, he does not distinguish between method in the strict sense and order as it was common in Paduan philosophy. Jessenius on the one hand refuses to identify logic with rhetoric, on the other hand he considers the method of knowledge as the part of the presentation of knowledge. Contrary to Protestant view Jessenius represents logic as the analytical art and not as dialectic. Jessenius tries to incorporate some aspects of Paduan logic into the teaching at the Lutheran university in Wittenberg in a incoherent manner.

Předmětem orace Jana Jesenského Et philosophiae et medicinae solidae studiosis (Wittebergae 1601) je koncepce metody. Ačkoli Jessenius sám sebe považuje za odchovance padovského aristotelismu, nerozlišuje, jak tomu bylo běžné v Padově, mezi metodou v přísném slova smyslu a řádem. Na jednu stranu odmítá rétorizaci logiky, na stranu druhou považuje metodu vědění za součást metody výuky. V protikladu k protestantskému pojetí nechápe logiku jako dialektiku, nýbrž ji označuje jako analytické umění. Jesseniusse pokouší o přenesení některých aspektů padovské logiky do výuky na luteránské universitě ve Wittenberku, nicméně nekoherentním způsobem.
