Berakha - Ritual of Blessing in Jewish tradition
Original language description
Blessing God is a principal religious obligation in mainstream Judaism. Most Jewish prayers are formally blessings. Prayer had only a marginal role in Jewish worship during biblical times, but its importance dramatically increased during Second Temple time and it is perceived as a central form of worship in rabbinic literature. This development was motivated by a confrontation with late antique pagan world in which rabbinic Judaism emerged.
