Multiple identity of the Chechens and their perception in today's Russia
Original language description
The text focuses on the Chechen people - a Muslim nation of the North Caucasus, their identity and conditions that have been influencing its formation. It outlines the past and the current circumstances of Chechen life, their perception of themselves aswell as how they are perceived by the Russian majority. It is argued that the identity of Chechens is a complicated mixture of several particular identities; both history and recent events as well as the way of life in Chechnya or outside the homeland form the identity of Chechens.
