This paper presents the personality of Antonín Sychra (1918-1969), Czech musicologist and aesthetician. It considers the scholarly importance of his research work and the role of ideological premises (the preference for Marxist philosophy) in it. So it weighs Sychra´s contribution to aesthetics of music and the most viable heritage of his work.
