The article presents one of the most important personalities of the historical development of the social work theories and methods in the Czech Republic. Marie Krakešová (1898-1979) is the creator and main representative of the so-called psychological-educational social therapy. This started between the world wars and reacts to the expanding social problems mainly among the urban poor. The individual and family-focused social therapy is timeless in many aspects and can be an inspiration for today?s social work.
