Building History and the Preservation of Yangzhou

  • Original language description

This study focuses on the space within and outside the Qing city walls of Yangzhou: New Town with lanes tangled in between the two main crossing alleys, and the relatively spatial Old Town (former Yuan city) which once hosted the official compounds. Outside the walls were pleasure gardens, created before and during the building boom caused by the Southern journeys of Qianlong emperor. The shape of the inner town under the Qing dynasty is compared to the present state, with regard to the state of preservation of Yangzhou's historic sites.
