Max Zweig stellt einen Sonderfall schon im Rahmen der deutschmährischen Literatur. Seine komplizierte Stellung verdoppelt sich im Exil in Palästina, späterem Staat Israel. Sein Schaffen ist teilweise durch die literarisch vermittelte Heimatsuche bestimmt, teilweise reflektiert auch einige Merkmale, die der ganzen Gruppe der deutschsprechenden Autoren in Israel gemeinsam sind. Darunter vor allem den Konzept der neuen jüdischen Identität, derer Bestandteile er in seinem Werk behandelt.
