Teaching Consumer Culture and Sustainable Development with 'The Story of Stuff'
Original language description
The Story of Stuff is a freely distributed on-line Creative Commons copyright video examining the ecological and social effects of modern consumer culture. As a freely distributed and professionally produced "viral video" addressing a topic of current interest, it provides an excellent way of presenting a complex subject to students in an accessible and thought-provoking way to students accustomed to internet-based media. This presentation examines ways of using The Story of Stuff as a resource for teaching listening, vocabulary and discussion skills to upper-intermediate and advanced students of English.
