Original language description
The gender discourse serves to illustrate that Bohemian and Moravian Haskalah (as well as concomitant social, intellectual and religious currents in Jewish society) was an original and often trend-setting phenomenon that anticipated developments in othercountries. This is exemplified by examining three test cases that illustrate practical aspects of Jewish life around 1800 as well as their moral-philosophical underpinnings, namely the German-Jewish schools, the first German-Jewish periodical, Jüdischdeutsche Monatschrift, and German prayer books for women.
