Original language description
The foundinq of Aargh! magazíne in the year 2000 was a major event for new Czech comics. Aargh! grew into a highly significant publishing platform for the up-and-coming generation of young artists, free of political restrictions and brought up with an intimate knowledge of both foreign and local comics traditions. The first decade of the twenty-first century can thus rightfully be regarded as one of the happiest periods for Czech comics. From the ranks of artists who have emerged from the alternative and fanzine scene, a profusion of the most varied representatives of the new generation of comics makers are now being recruited. These artists are also beginning to make themselves known in book-length comic albums, produced with considerable artistic andnarrative ambitions. This chapter describes the characteristics of the most important projects of graphic novels produced by authors of Generation Zero, which were published in the first decade of the 21st century.
