Polylegran. From Cartoon to Comics
Original language description
In the history or Czech comics, the 1950s and most of the 1960s are usually considered as something or the dark ages for comic art. However, while the communist ideological control perhaps did succeed in almost entirely suppressing the local comics as ameans of expression in the public sphere, the not yet fully known but highly familiar signals of sequential imagery began - timidly at first but later with ever greater vigour - to find an outlet in the work of the younger generation of cartoonists and draughtsmen gathered under the shield of the Polylegran group, which was from its very inception closely linked with the Mladý svět progressive societal weekly. A chapter is devoted to comics work of members of Polylegran group.
