The Land in Between - Three hundred years of Jewish migration to and from Moravia, 1648-1948
Original language description
Moravia, situated in the heart of Central Europe, became a destination or transit point for Jewish migrants and transmigrants from the East, who often served as cultural agents between East and West. Moravia was also a source of Jewish emigrants, particularly those who wished to escape the oppressive residential, occupational and legal restrictions - especially between the late seventeenth and early nineteenth centuries - by emigrating to Hungary and other neighboring lands. The conference explored themigratory movement in the region from the Chmielnicky Uprising in 1648-1649 until the establishment of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, in 1948.
