Artemisia Gentileschi: a newly attributed painting
Original language description
The painting David Contemplating the Head of Goliath (fig. 1) from the picture gallery of the Bishops and Archbishops of Olomouc in Kroměříž in the Czech Republic has until now been considered to be a free copy by an unknown painter of the painting by Orazio Gentileschi (1563-1639) in the Galleria Spada in Rome . However, it is no ordinary copy. As is shown by an old inventory of the collection and as a recent restoration has confirmed, the painting is the work of Orazio?s daughter Artemisia Gentileschi(1593-1653).
