Zdeněk Fibich's opera Hedy as a "Czech Tristan" Between Wagnerism and Verismo
Original language description
Zdeněk Fibich (1850-1900) returned to opera composition at the beginning of 1890s after almost 10-years-long silence. Hedy (1895) was received as a succesfull work, although many reviewers did not know how to call the prevailing style (mixture of wagnerianism, Grand opéra, verismo exotico, "the second Don Giovanni"composed for Prague because of reminiscences on Mozart's dramma giocoso). The study tries to identified Fibich's stylistic intention in the case of opera Hedy, which was named "Czech Tristan".
