Original language description
The paper deals with the autochthonous inhabitants of Hultchini district and focuses on changes in social identities formation between generations of Hultchini people. Historical border region of Hutchini had been a subject of political contention between Germany and Czechoslovakia in 20th century, and as a consequence of the fact its territory once belonged to one state, another time to another one. The history of the region is an example of ethnic and nationalist paradox. A manipulation with the territory and its inhabitants had influenced the interwar generation, with partial impact on two successive generations. The story of inhabitants of Hultchini is essentially encoded in this three rules - ethnically ambivalent, strongly pro-catholic oriented territorial community is being subjected to a struggle of nationalisms to be revived after Velvet Revolution by its elites as a selfconscious regional community.
