Original language description
On the example of Slavenka Drakulić's novel Frida's Bed (Frida, ili o boli, 2007), this study examines the visual articulation of memory as one of the dominant tendencies in the contemporary Croatian women's writing. Visuality here is understood as a new textual quality resulting from the transposition of visual into textual medium, which supplements "the incapacity of language to make its referents visible" (Gelley, 1987:5), and transforms traditional narratives into "interfaces" which "mobilize visual and textual regimes" (Smith; Watson: 2005:2) The intermedial techniques used in textual construction of visual identity for instance include pictorial language
