Linguistic Strategies of Offensice and Defensive Argumentation

  • Original language description

The article focuses on the analysis of the linguistic means of defensive and offensive argumentation in the dialogical form of argumentation. The theoretical basis for the analysis is the model developed by Wohlrapp. He defines the fundamental operationsof asserting, reasoning and criticising as a system of specific possibilities of moves and subsequent moves in dialogical argumentations. At the same time, the focus lies in identifying various linguistic realisations of offensive strategies and avoidance manoeuvres. A relatively prototypical example of a dialogical text type was chosen for the analysis of the argumentation-process: an interview. The article pursues two basic goals: 1) to verify the thesis by Wohlrapp that the argumentation processes are realised in simple repetitive argumentation moves; 2) to prove the fact that the argumentation strategies could partially be identified already on the level of linguistic expression.
