Franz Spina - A Personality of German-Czech Dialogue. A Biographical Sketch
Original language description
The study brings a biographical sketch of a forgotten political and academic persona from the era of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Franz Spina, a native of Městečko Trnávka, was raised in a Czech-German environment. After his studies in Vienna and Prague he became one of the leading figures of German Slavic studies at the German Charles-Ferdinand University. With the establishment of the First Czechoslovak Republic, he entered the world of politics and acted as a minister in nine governments until 1938. During this whole time, Spina worked towards bringing the Czech and German elements closer together.
